2021 The Clennett family appointed Matthew Haas as General Manager. Matt is a local Tasmanian and had been with the group for five years, having held various roles within the business from Trade Sales to Group Operations Manager. Matt was well placed to continue the businesses network growth & retain family’s focus on being the largest timber and building products company in Tasmania.
2021 William Clennett took a new role with the Mitre 10 group (Metcash Ltd) to work across all Joint Venture and Company Owned stores nationally. Will joined the group to assist in the continued growth of the Mitre 10 network with current sales exceeding three billions dollars annually.
2021 Clennett’s Mitre 10 relocated its Mornington based Trade Centre into a much larger facility to capitalise of housing growth on the Eastern Shore of Hobart.
2021 Clennett’s Mitre 10 acquired Swansea True Value Hardware on the East Coast of Tasmania and converted the business into a Mitre 10 branded store. The acquisition was part of a border strategy to increase network presence in Regional Tasmania.
2021 Clennett’s Mitre 10 acquired Kingston Landscape Centre & redeveloped the site into a purpose built facility that supplies and installs bricks, blocks, sands and aggregates to the construction & landscape market.
2020 Clennett’s Mitre 10 turnover exceeds one hundred million dollars for the first time in the company’s history.
2017 Clennett’s Mitre 10 entered into a Joint Venture with Brad Thomas to establish Total Prefabrication (Hobart Frame & Truss Business).
2017 Clennett’s Mitre 10 acquired the trade division of Kemp & Denning Limited (K&D Trade) in Southern Tasmania. The purchase expanded Clennett’s Trade network by effectively adding a new location in Glenorchy and acquiring additional trade customers and volume.
2016 William Clennett was appointed as General Manager of the Clennett’s Group.
2016 John’s Daughter, Katharine Anne Tuesday Koidl (Nee’ Clennett) joined the business on the Board of Directors. Kate is Partner at Minter Ellison (Australia’s largest law firm) and is based in Victoria.
2013 Clennett’s Mitre 10 acquired a Home Hardware store on the Eastern Suburbs of Hobart & converted it to Australia’s first Mitre 10 (Trade Only) Centre.
2012 John entered into a Joint Venture with Mitre 10 Australia. John became the Chairman of the newly formed board & JV company.
2011 John’s large-format stores attracted offers from Woolworths, who were set to enter the Australian Hardware Market.
2008 Metcash acquired Mitre 10 Australia, which was a wholesale distribution business for Mitre 10 members.
2007 John’s son, William Richard Roffey Clennett, entered the business following studies in financial accounting at the Bond University.
1994 John acquired Kingston Valley Timber & and an adjacent Nursery business in Kingston.
1993 John added his first “Trade” Drive Through to his Kingston site and incorporated Sand, Soil & Greenlife sales into his business at Kingston.
1992 John was appointed National Chairman of Mitre 10 Australia & New Zealand.
1989 John rejoined the Mitre 10 group and established additional sites across the southern region in both Cygnet and Kingston.
1988 John Clennett established a new business by acquiring two existing hardware stores in Geeveston and Huonville, trading as Clennett’s Southern Hardware.
1988 The company’s new retail division attracted offers from BBC Hardware (T/A Bunnings Warehouse) to purchase the two flagship stores. The stores changed hands in 1988.
1983 Clennett’s Mitre 10 opened a second store in Rosny Park, in the Eastern Suburbs of Hobart.
1979 John diversified the families interests and established a retail division. Clennett’s Mitre 10 was opened off the Brooker Highway in the Northern Suburbs of Hobart.
1970 Brian’s son, John Roffey Clennett, joined the family business after completing an Economics Degree whilst playing AFL in Victoria.
1950 Brian formed BG Clennett Pty Ltd and rebuilt the Clennett name in the sawmilling industry, with hardwood sawmills opened in the Dover area.
1945 Brian Clennett returned from World War II, the combined effects of the War and Great Depression had taken an irretrievable toll on the company.
1935 Roy’s son Brian joined the company before the Second World War.
1912 William took his two eldest sons, William and Roy, into the business, building a large sawmill at Garden Island Creek under the name of Clennett and Company.
1885 William Longstaff Clennett established his first sawmill at “Stanmore” near Dover.
1855 William Potts Clennett and his family migrated from England and settled at Dover, Tasmania.
